History about Doñarepa and origin of Arepas in Colombia:
The Colombian territory, since pre-Hispanic times, has been an important key to the development of corn. The environmental, sociocultural, and technological characteristics present in the regions of the country have generated conditions for the development of varieties, races, native ecotypes of corn and hybrids, which have adapted to climatic conditions, pests, diseases and water availability. For this reason, Colombia has grown corn in almost all geographical regions, but with greater intensity in the tropical lowlands of the Caribbean and the varied climate of the Andean region, which has transformed it into an indispensable food in the diet of Colombians, since arepas are produced and other delicious recipes, such as flours for wraps, among others.
Apart from the traditional types of corn (baby, sweet, for green cobs, waxy, jagged, blowout and hard), there are the varieties and ecotypes of corn that have conserved and cultivated the indigenous, black and peasant communities in their production systems.
Also known as Doña Arepa.
